Death Chant by Vella Munn #romantic #suspense

Vella Munn will be awarding a $20 Amazon or Barnes and Noble GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour.

If your book were made into a movie, who would you want to play your main characters? Oh, that’s impossible to answer. Not only don’t I watch many movies (hard to believe, isn’t it?), my characters are Native American. I’d want to have Native American actors so someone please make some suggestions for me.

How do you come up with the titles of your books? Sometimes it’s a matter of beating my head against my desk until something falls out. Other times the publisher suggests something. Death Chant was relatively easy although I could have called it Death Howl because when my heroine finds her mentor’s body, she hears a wolf howl.

What does your writing space look like? I have an upstairs office carved out of part of the roofline. It has two windows, and the biggest one which is just beyond my monitor, looks out at the surrounding hills. Almost daily I’m treated to geese and duck formations and go nuts over sunsets. It’s an L shaped room with an adjacent bathroom. I tease that if I added a microwave, I could live up here. Two small bookshelves. I’m allergic to clutter.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not writing? Being out of doors. Going for walks, working in the garden. Of course I also love being with my family.

What is your favourite color? I’ve always been partial to green but I also love that burned orange color.

What is your favourite pleasure food? Macaroni and cheese. I make a good pot of it, if I do say.

What is your favourite season? Spring. Winters are long and often foggy in southern Oregon so spring is special.

What is your favourite television show? I’m partial to anything about Alaska like Ice Road Truckers, Deadliest Catch, and Alaska the Last Frontier. I’m buried in fiction all day so am drawn to real life on my off time.

What is your favourite movie? Like I said, I’m not a movie watcher.

Who is your favourite actor? Oh my gosh, I’m really going to strike out here. I don’t have one.

What is your favourite song? Anything Neil Diamond sings. I’d run away with him if he’d have me. J

What is your favourite comfort clothing attire? One of my sons’ oversized cotton shirts, leggings, and slippers. I ditch the slippers in summer.

What books might we find on your bedside table? Anything by Catherine Anderson. Right now I’m reading Lisa Hendrix’s Immortal Defender and loving the ancient world she created.

Describe yourself in three words. Quiet. Self-contained. Seeking

Winter Barstow knows nothing of her past or ethnic heritage. Everything changes when Doc, her mentor, sends her an authentic ceremonial wolf mask from Olympic National Forest.

Then Doc disappears. Winter goes to the mysterious  forest where she’s confronted by Native American ranger Jay Raven, who has no love for Doc.

Still, Jay can’t walk away from Winter. Not only has a spirit wolf reached out to her, but he also suspects she’s in terrible danger…and his growing feelings for her are too strong to ignore.

Excerpt
Silver eyes stared at her. The slightly open mouth could either represent a grin or a snarl. If it was as old as Doc had said it was, the mask had been created as part of ancient Native ceremonies.

Going by what she’d learned about the Northwestern tribes, someone, probably a proven hunter, had placed it over his head and mimicked a wolf’s movements. Little children might have cowered before the fierce figure, but hopefully their parents would have assured them that the wolf dancer represented courage and survival. The hunter would stalk, threaten and mock attack.

How did wolves factor into Hoh spiritual beliefs?

It shouldn’t be here. If university staff learned what Doc had done, he’d be fired—unless someone like Dr. Wilheim decided the rare treasure would bring enough attention to the university to warrant defending a colleague under the cloak of research and discovery.

Dr. Wilheim defend Doc to the point of challenging the law? Wasn’t going to happen.

She came closer then picked up the mask. Although heavy for its size, the incredibly well-preserved artifact seemed to have been designed to fit over her head. Holding the mask at arms’ length, she walked into the bathroom, put it on the counter and stood in front of the mirror. Large black eyes, a somewhat broad nose, high cheekbones and thick, shoulder-length midnight hair reflected back at her. She’d studied herself countless times over the years, but the feeling that she was looking at a stranger remained.

Who was she?

  1. Hi Lisa Brown. Are you following me? :) Seriously, I'm delighted to have a chance to connect with potential readers and bloggers like Louise who is doing something I'm not technie enough to accomplish.

BTW Louise, picking your brain, I've about given up looking for fingernail polish that prevents or slows my nails from chipping and splitting. I'm not into colors and designs, just protection. Suggestions please?
